The latest generation of solid state disk solves the physical hard disk problem by replacing mechanical devices with high speed circuitry. Instead of a rotating disk, a solid state disk uses memory chips (typically DDR RAM) to read and write data. Solid state disk systems from DSI have a 20 microsecond access time (250 times faster than hard disk drives) and are perfectly matched to today’s high performance servers.

The solid state disk connects directly into servers or can be easily added to a SAN. Solid state disk connects via standard Fibre Channel interfaces and appears as a normal disk.
